Happy New Year!
For 2013, I resolve to write more this year. So... here's the next installment of my kids blog. ^_^
June 2012
I had grand plans for the summer. I was going to get a membership at the YMCA in S.F. and take the kids swimming everyday. (I even took the tour and got the pool schedule.) We were going to go places and do things. Yep. It was going to be awesome. And then Ethan crashed all my plans. Literally. Just a few days into the summer - and a few days before his 6th birthday,
he crashed his bicycle and broke his arm.
Poor thing had his arm in a cast all summer. The doctors said, "No jumping. No running. No biking. No swimming. And stay still as much as possible!"
Pfft! Yeah right. Do you know how impossible it is to get a little kid to stay still?
The kids were feeling cooped up because I'd spent several days in a row working on the
flower girl dresses for my brother's wedding. So I decided to take a break and take them to explore a bicycle trail in our area. The trail was gorgeous. It had several picturesque wooden bridges going over a creek and tall trees. Talia and Ethan stopped at one point so that they could stick their hands in the creek. They liked it so much they wanted to keep riding - even though I knew they were getting tired.
Talia and Ethan on the bike trail... on the day of the bicycle accident. Here's where they stopped to touch the water in the creek. Isn't it pretty?
On the way home, Ethan went too fast down hill and crashed his bicycle. OMG. It scared the crap out of me! I coul see that he was about to crash, but I was too far away to prevent it from happening. It was terrible. I could tell right away that his arm was broken. Luckily, some passing bicylists stopped to help.
Ethan in a splint. (He received a proper cast a few days later, after the swelling went down.)
A few weeks later, we were invited to our friend's piano recital. Little A was graduating Suzuki Piano Book One! We were all very proud of her. Little A went to the same preschool that Talia and Ethan went to - and had the same preschool teacher that Ethan had. Ms. T was invited to Little A's piano recital, too.
It was great to see Ms. T and the other teachers again! It was like a mini class reunion! ^_^

July 2012
Only one month before Baby Brother's wedding! It was crunch time on the dresses. And I was still doing home school with the kids - giving them daily Chinese and Math lessons. We didn't do much in July, simply because we were too busy - that, and Ethan couldn't do much with his arm in a cast anyways. Let's see...
We went to a friend's house for the 4th of July. We had a late barbecue and hung around until it was dark enough for fireworks. It was a lot of fun. The fireworks were so pretty! (No pictures though. My camera doesn't take good night time photos. You'll just have to take my word for it. ^_~)
And...
Talia got her ears pierced!
Talia has wanted to wear earrings for a long time. She asked to get her ears pierced when she was four years old. At the time, I thought she was too young, so I told her she could get her ears pierced when she was eight years old. And she remembered what I said for four entire years!
During a free weekend, I took her to the mall to get her ears pierced. Tah-dah!
Talia was so brave. She didn't cry at all! She loves wearing earrings. ^_^
Afterwards, we had a snack at the mall. (Auntie Anne's Pretzels. Yum!)
Random photos from July:
At the end of July, Ethan's cast got wet during bath time. If the cast gets wet, it doesn't dry out - which is very bad. The wet cast must come off - and be replaced with a new cast. However, Ethan's cast was due to come off within the next week. The doctor took x-rays of his arm and decided that Ethan's arm was healed enough that he didn't need a new cast; he would be okay with a splint. So the cast came off a week early.
Ethan in the waiting room - waiting for the cast to come off. Yay!

The kids are now six and eight years old, but they still haven't outgrown playing in boxes. I hope they never do. ^_^
I'm fresh out of cute quotes. My kids always say the darnedest things, but I can't remember any at the moment. *sigh*
Next time...
Angry Bird birthday parties and cute quotes. ^_^
