Jacky the Cat will be lucky to make 2013 unless s/he stops pissing on the carpet and pooing in an upstairs bedroom ( Read more... )

Oh no!! Poor you. I hate to say it, but most times it's caused by illness. Poor kitty and poor you.

I don't think s/he is ill -- the owners mentioned that s/he was a very ornery kitty who yowls at all hours and has been rather difficult lately.

Very sweet, when not pissing on the carpet.

Well I'm glad s/he/it isn't ill, but sucks for you if s/he/it keeps up with pissing around :( Hopefully she'll settle in soon.

Sodium bicarbonate. World's best fixit for EVERYTHING. Including cat's piss.

You need a product called UrineOff - it will get rid of the smell, which is extremely important; if S/he can smell any trace of the urine, they'll do it again in the same spot. Most pet stores have some UrineOff products (wipes, sprays for carpet/furniture cleaning, etc).

I've got a cat, Mister JackJack, who does the same thing. Thankfully we have floorboards.

The other thing you can try is a pheromone called Feliway, which makes them all happy kitteh - you can get a spray and a plug in diffuser, which you wont notice the smell of. They're available from any vet clinic.

I used both when JackJack first started his little habit. I ran the diffuser for a month (never needed to buy a refill) and sprayed where he had urinated. I still use the spray when he's being a particularly energetic shithead.

The urination issue stopped for the most part - but if we happen to leave washing out, it's still fair game in his mind.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can't find it in the local Woolies. Sodium bicarbonate has done wonders, and I've got some spot carpet cleaner in case it's still there when it dries. I also found some pet piss deoderiser under the skin, - so this isn't the first time.

Dear JackJack. How is he? I miss your piccies of them on LJ.

I'll give you another tip because Ky is right about the odor. If you can some kind of spray that smells of oranges, it will help discourage ornery kittys from having anything to do with what ever you have given the orange scent to. We have an outdoor cat problem here and always scatter orange peels around our new plant beds to discourage cats. It works. Aeris has a cleaner that leaves an orange smell.

Yikes. :S

We're about to throw out a piece of furniture because the cats thinks it's their frakking litter box. *headdesks*

Good luck!
