Star Trek Movie

Feb 27, 2013 06:03

FINALLY watched the "new" Star Trek movie last night. Y'know, the one that's about 2 years old, with baby!Kirk being born and young!Spock (that actor from Heroes). I loved it, although I had suspend a LOT of disbelief. Teen boy heaven. Oh yeah baby, 17 years old and you can drive the Enterprise. All those cadets running around in charge. Yeah, ( Read more... )

As Conan O'Brien said: To prove that he is in fact a Trekkie, Obama must release his fanfiction. ;)

Yay, catching up with the rest of us. I'm so proud of you!

Poor SO. At least he tried.

I would read Obama's fanfiction (as opposed to writing fanfiction about Obama 8)

Disclosure: I dragged child to see this, the day after it came out, having spent the previous few months carefully turning her into a Trekkie by watching ALL 7 seasons of TNG. (I should be a cult leader or a North Korean brain wash expert ... fuck, I'm good at this.) Anyway, I loved it. Adored it. Have watched it, like, 10 times; SO pauses on it everytime it comes by during one of his endless zap fests. Whole fam is anxiously awaiting the 2013 edition ( ... )

I loved it too. I also noticed the Orion slave girl, btw, and I found young!Kirk REALLY annoying. But then I find old!Kirk a PITA as well. Still loved it though.

Well, at least now my icon (courtesy of audabee and not a manip) makes sense to you?

I've long accepted that this is a true reboot. There's nothing of old Trek, except some of the nostalgia, in this series. Abrams maintains that this is a reimagining of the series and not a redo. That's why it's frustrating to see all the speculation of whether or not Cumberbatch is some villain from TOS. I highly doubt Abrams would pick Khan, for example, since we've already seen what happened to his character. Why do a reboot when there's no tension to be mined from that?

I understand SO's reaction. It's a lot to buy into. But I love Karl Urban's Bones and I live for Simon Pegg's reaction shots alone. So I can suspend disbelief.

I'd always assumed your icon was a fiddle.

I did love it though. Adored Spock. And I thought Simon Pegg was a hobbit, but Google has set me straight.

I liked the Bones character. And Uhuru.

The rest of them I would've drowned. Twice. Kirk was a dick. I wouldn't put him in charge of a chook raffle. I'm afraid I'm with the SO on this. I thought it was tripe (although, tripe with splodey bits!).

Bones and Scotty were great. And Spock and Uhura. In fact, come to think of it, the only nong was Kirk, so he's just running true to form. He wasn't as annoying as Shatner though.

I'll see the sequel, but there's no way I'll get SO to watch. Once he's made up his mind on something there's no budging him. Still can't trick him into watching BSG. *sigh*

I'll watch the next one (but probably in 2 years time, not when it comes out), but then I don't have strong feelings about TOS characters. Well, Kirk is a dick, but he's a dick in this too so it's consistent!

also might be slightly miffed that they literally erased all of Voyager from existence...

I think of it as an AU. Like "Living Witness" fic, but not as good.
