Title: When Did You?
Pairing: Kyuhyun/Zhou Mi
Rating: pg
Summary: When Zhou Mi asked, he shrugged his shoulders.
Kyuhyun wasn’t sure when he stopped flinching away when he touched him, when he started meeting that hand halfway and holding it longer than he had to. He wasn’t sure, and sometimes he wondered if it had always been like this, if he had always pretended to know less Mandarin than he did (he wasn’t an idiot, they’d been at this for years, and he’d picked it up in their lessons faster even than Siwon) just so Zhou Mi would mouth the translation against his ear in accented Korean, if he had always taken that hand on his knee and shifted it a little further up, further in, to make that wide mouth smile wider.
But no, he told himself, almost daily these days. It was stupid, it just wasn’t possible, that he had fallen for this too tall, too smiley foreigner the second they’d locked eyes. Definitely not possible that he’d given himself away almost immediately, either, by feeding Zhou Mi off his own plate (with his own chopsticks even) when he usually hated stuff like that, wouldn’t even share with Donghae when he begged and pouted.
So, when Zhou Mi asked, he shrugged his shoulders.
“When did you?”
“The first time I heard you sing.”
That answer, instantaneous, and Kyuhyun told himself he was scowling because that was stupid and unoriginal and it wasn’t, definitely wasn’t, to hide the way he was blushing, because he wasn’t at all.
“Well,” Zhou Mi amended, “that was when I was first interested. I realized how much I liked you after we met, when Siwon said something you thought was stupid and you couldn’t stop laughing.”
That’s a better answer, yuhyun thought, but he said, “Most things Siwon says are stupid.”
He knew he should probably give a proper answer. Make something up that Zhou Mi would like, but he couldn’t come up with anything clever and it would have felt weird to lie, anyway. So he shrugged his shoulders again.
“I don’t know when I started.”
“That’s okay.” And that mouth was spreading into one of those half-silly grins. “I do.”
And Kyuhyun wanted so badly to ask how and when and why, how Zhou Mi could possibly know when he didn’t know himself - but then those lips were all up against his, warm and soft and nicer than he’d anticipated, and he decided his questions could wait.
