A very important suggestion:prettyhMarch 13 2008, 21:31:11 UTC
As the moderator/creator of more than one successful comm over the year, I have a valuable tip for you. Change the join settings. Closed or moderated membership is a huge turnoff for a lot of people. Once they get to that page that says you have to submit a request to a moderator to join, you'll lose at least a few potentials. I promise you that. I've decided against joining comms for that reason before, because it's...well, it's a lot of things, depending on who you are. It's a pain in the ass to wait to be approved to join; it's elitist; it's something that kind of ruins the momentum if you found the comm & wanted to join and post right while the mood struck

Thanks for the advice. You're right. We didn't mean to be sending out any kind of elitist vibe. We want to make writers of all skill levels feel welcome, as long as they're serious about learning. That's the main thing. The other thing we were worried about was someone getting the password for the anonymous posting account and hijacking it on us.
Anyhoo, the settings have been changed like you suggested. Hopefully people will think it sounds like a good idea and come give it a shot.

Don't slap me, but...you've gotta fix your tagline ASAP. *sheepish*
