Oh, nice! I like how you write about the competition between John and Paul as something that was genuinely productive, for all the conflicts that it caused. I think the competitive aspect of their relationship doesn't get enough attention in slash, but it can be so very fruitful -- and full with sexual tension, ha ha!
Is there a particular photo you had in mind? At first I was imagining one of the infamous black-and-white photos of John and Paul hanging all over each other, with John resting his chin on Paul's head. There is a photo circulating around Livejournal of John practicing in a rehearsal studio with a photo from that session on the wall above him, and it has been the subject of some debate about whether it's genuine or Photoshopped. But then you described them as "looking young and naïve and ready to conquer the world," and I envisioned a photo of the two of them on stage, maybe singing into the same microphone...
Really nice energy here and insightful view of John's relationship with Paul. I like that you present the evolution as not a devolution at this point. Very real.
