Accidental Christian?

I am currently working on an art project that involves religion. They are clay easter eggs that, although decorated in pastels and bold designs, contain Christian images. I had never read the Bible when I began this project, so I asked a friend to lend me hers so I could read it and better understand the story behind Easter. She suggested the four ( Read more... )

The problem I have with Christianity is that it creates a framework of thinking that makes it REALLY easy for people to let evil come out of them. Christianity as most people know it separates the world into Creator and creation, into Good and Evil, into God and man, into Humanity and Environment, and so on and so forth ... it draws disconnects, in other words, and a disconnect is all you need to do something wrong. If there are no disconnects, you ARE what you're doing, who you're doing it to, where you're doing it, how you're doing it, etc., and the Golden Rule necessarily applies. Convince yourself that you're not connected to others, or God, or the rest of the world, etc., and you have given yourself a reason not to obey the Golden Rule. Thus evil is made possible (this is making the assumption that obeying the Golden Rule is necessarily "good," which is a slightly different can of worms, but I think you get the point ( ... )

I hope you got my deleted post, if you didn't I can send it again.

"Walking on water is really just a symbol for overcoming fear. And the food-miracle really is about how the "teachings" do not loose their value, no matter how many people learn them."

Hmmm, I think I really want to read the Bible now and do a literal analogy on it. OH! Read Gilgamesh!!!! The Epic of Gilgamesh was written before the Bible, and the Tora. There are a few similarities in it, like the flood from god. It's really interesting and can be interpreted on many different levels. It's an incredibly short read. Not even 100pgs.

Anyway, I like this stuff.

Discovering your own spirituality is an important thing.

I personally suggest taking into consideration but ignoring what OTHER people *cough* (joe) are going to say about religion cause it's already been said before. Your thoughts are what will lead you to understanding your spiritual self. I suggest taking a Western and Eastern religions course, as well as a Philosophy course. Learning is the path to discovery.

It's not "The problem I have with Christianity...". It's all about you. Thats what is great about discovering your spiritual side, this is where you can decide what you like or don't like and what you think is right or wrong. You don't even need a religion to tell you that.

...and you're soo smart you get there all on your own.

I like you!
