Do hardware stores sell those bracket things that go on the sides of air conditioners, or sell something similar to it? I have my sister's air conditioner, but she didn't have the side brackets attached because she had it "professionally" installed - all drilled in with plexiglass on the sides and silicone adhesive. Obviously I don't have that

yeah you should totally be able to buy that at a hardware store. find a (hot) clerk and explain that and they'll hook you up.

geoff and i used styrofoam (his dad, mr handypants, suggested it). we bought a huge thing of it at home depot for like $6 and cut it with an exacto knife. then we put clear duct tape over it. it's worked out really well.
