Spoilers: Based on a scene from 'Bad Judgment'.
“Moz, it was really good meeting you,” Elizabeth says, and she means it. She hold the door open as he steps out.
“Elizabeth, the pleasure is all mine.” He takes her hand and bows slightly over it. Despite his short stature, he is awfully debonair. He's not Neal, but he has his own devious charm.
She waits until he turns to go down the stairs before calling him back. “Moz?”
“Yes, my dear?”
“That cloisonne egg belonged to my grandmother. I'm very fond of it.”
“Egg?”
“Yes, the one that 'fell' into your coat when you were sweeping the mantel?” She purses her lips in an attempt to keep from smiling and raises both eyebrows expectantly.
“Oh. That egg. Right. Just one...” he fishes through his pockets, and finds it on the third try. “Sorry, I must have knocked it over when I was checking the painting.”
“Of course. Thank you,” she says as he hands it over and takes a slow step back.
“Well, it was good talking to you, Elizabeth,” he says, waving jauntily.
“Moz?”
“Yes?” The look on his face is comical-a look that says he knows he's caught but is still holding onto a shred of hope. It's a look she's seen on Satchmo more times than she can count.
“I find I'm missing a few butter knives from the silver set. You wouldn't have found them in your travels, by any chance?”
“The butter...” he starts out quizzical, then his shoulders drop and the smile disappears. “Sorry,” he mumbles as he hands her four butter knives and a small bud vase. “Old habits die hard, you know?”
She smiles. “I understand completely.”
He backs down the steps, obviously disappointed.
“Moz?”
“I don't have anything else,” he says, spreading his hands in a pointless gesture to demonstrate his innocence.
“I know. I just wanted to say, I'll see you tomorrow. Poached eggs for breakfast?”
He smiles slowly. “That sounds delectable.”
She nods. “Tomorrow, then.”
She lets herself grin when she's safely behind closed doors.
She's always loved a challenge.
