£8.50 a metre for silk satin - wow... What's the kit?

Great avatar!

Sharpe and his rifle are OTP.

It's probably techically more like silk paj rather than a proper satin - it's very light weight and I'd probably have to line it as it's fairly translucent and I wouldn't want to show off too much in strong light! The silk/cotton mix is a lovely soft mid-weight satin, though, which wouldn't need lining (and I think was even cheeper!)

The kit is a natural fibre replacement for my red Kamakuran hanfu, because the polyester satin becomes unbearable when it's hot out. The plan is to make an aoqun, with a bright silk top and heavy cotton pleated 'qun' skirt. Red is the Dalai's colour of choice, so I thought a red top and black skirt would look quite smart.

Sounds fabbo! I've got a pash for 1780s at the moment, and am trying to use up my stash rather than buying more. So hard...

I'm quite good at buying exactly how much I need for a project, so the leftovers are usually only scraps, of which I have lots. I was considering trying to use some up by making fabric flowers/corsages.

Hmm. Which shop would this be, out of interest?

Ditto. It's the one on Kensington Gardens, opposite what used to be the Kensington Arms, but is now the White Rabbit or something. Nice little fabric shop which is much more organised than Fabric Fair. They're also very good at giving suggestions for fabric choices if you tell them what you're making - they pointed out the lovely silk/cotton mix to me when I commented on the nice silks.

Ah, yes, Ditto. Haven't been in there a while, and didn't know they had an upper floor, but they seemed like a good lot. Will have to have a look around.

I think the upstairs used to be just bridal, so I'd never bothered to go up, but they have some nice stuff up there - silks and wools and some lovely striped cottons that would be perfect for Regency and Victorian costuming - I have my eye on some dark purple and green striped cloth for my M&M character.
