So I have always frowned on the idea of asking out coworkers for various reasons, but recently I can't stop thinking about one of them

I say let it ride until she's single. Hold that stuff back especially because of your professional connection with her. As a general rule intraoffice dating often advised against. And if you think about it your chances of relationship failing with her are MUCH greater than not failing. After that happens what happens at the office? If nothing else wait til she's single, after that just follow your...heart.

Yeah, I am really not comfortable with the working together thing either for some of the reasons you mentioned plus a few others.
