STAGES ON PAGES - CURTAINS UP!

A very well-regarded professional in the children's book publishing business said to me once, It's a shame, but music books don't sell.

I gave kind of a start. This was before Vanished sold, and certainly well before it was published. At the time she said it, I thought of Vanished, which even though it was a mystery, it was also very clearly a music ( Read more... )

Sheela, congratulations on the launch! And Stages on Pages sounds wonderful. My mind immediately went to the lovely and important books with music themes by Patricia MacLachlan and Virginia Euwer Wolf and of course there are so many more. Yay for all of you for making them more visible!

Oh thank you for those names. Perhaps we ought to do create a list for our site - that seems like a good idea!

What a great idea! As someone who loves theater, this is exciting! Sometimes I think of writing as just another form of performance. Let me know if there's anything I can do.

Looking forward to Act II!

Larchmont, NY? I'm not terribly far from there. About 45 minutes to an hour. I'm putting it on my calendar! Hopefully, I'll be able to come and have a book signed. :)

My book (Finder--Hadley Rille Books) is a "music" book. The main character is a musician, and music plays a huge role in the story itself. I've never heard "music books don't sell." That seems prepostrous to me. Wow.

I didn't know you were so close!! I had my launch party at the same place in Larchmont just last weekend! I would have invited you! Sadly LJ was down the whole week my book came out. >:-(

Anyway - I do hope you can come in November. It would be so nice to see you! And bring your sparkles. :)

To be fair, the person who said music books doesn't sell, said it apologetically like she wished it weren't so. But I still think that they could and they might, and so I will keep trying.

Well, now I'll know for the NEXT book. I had no idea you lived so close. Why did I think you were in England??

How funny - I thought you were in England, too!

Must be the Ms. Stephanie Burgis connection. :)
