You don't know until you try it.

Just this Friday I spoke for the first time at a bookstore -- not counting my launch party, because that was me holding the party, and the audience were my friends coming out to support me. This was my second author event. And I find it so interesting  to discover who I am when I'm not at home in front of my computer.

For authors, it's probably a ( Read more... )

public speaking, why don't you try running?, life begins

You look like you're having fun in the photo! And I'm so glad to hear about your experience changing over from nervous to sort of enjoying it. Yay--keep up with the running, it's such a great way to feel your body coming alive especially after all the BIC time you put in.

Last but not least, your book rocks, Sheela! I am truly in awe and loving it. :)

Thank you so much, Lorraine! Glad you are enjoying the book.

I'm not really a runner, or athletic. But it did feel good the other day. I think if I can just get a bit stronger with regular exercise, I can run longer, like I used to.

Oh my goodness - thanks for catching that. I lived both on the Upper East Side and Upper West Side, and just made a mind-slip. Changed it!

Well - I don't want to say I'm a seasoned public speaker! It was still so hard getting up there. But I'm glad I did it, and I think I will only get better over time.

Now the running -- it's a process. And I'm still sore from the process!!

Sounds like you're getting used to this other aspect of being a writer. Hope you have a lot of fun doing it.
I tried running for awhile, but I prefer yoga. Running can be exciting though. Glad you are experiencing new things.

I tried yoga, and then I had all these joint issues so sadly I had to stop. What I like about running is that you can do it anywhere and by yourself. Wish me luck!

I've no trouble standing up in front of a crowd. Running? Yikes! I think I'll leave that to you!

Strangely, I used to be a runner. I loved running, the freedom, the adrenaline. And then I got old! Ha!

So glad you had not one but TWO great experiences.

Both are hard in different ways, but I think putting myself where I have to do it has been key. I've been writing this morning but I hope to take a break and get there on the road for a little while.
