I'm not really sure I can top an ALA post. Especially when it is one about the dog days of summer. And isn't that a cliche? But I'm tapped out and have to resort to pre-made phrases

If you need to fill the well, you need new experiences. In addition to exploring the other arts--theatre, museums, music (of course!), fine art--take a course in a new subject, read a non-fiction book on a new subject, or--my favourite--take a vacation somewhere new.
Yes, I think I tend to rely heavily on the arts for inspiration, and I really need to diversify. I am actually reading a book of essays by a well-known journalist, and that's been good to step outside of my comfort zone. But I like your idea about reading a non-fiction book on something else. I never thought about doing that specifically.
So interesting how different people work. My stories usually start with a place and a concept. The characters come to me later - and I have to really work at figuring out who they are.

I didn't realize that I start with a character until now as I'm trying to figure out what to write next. I have such a hard time with plot, it's really the person who guides me through the story.
I do have kind of a character in mind, I just don't know where to put her, and what will happen to her. Or, I can only think of mundane things happening right now.
