I've been playing Hiro for almost six months, and I still haven't done any sort of canon write-up for him, because every time I to summarize the nature of the Jyuunishi's curse I wind up with far more questions than answers. So since I fail at actual analysis this time, have some of the questions.

I haven't read the whole post yet, but just wanted to say I'm pretty sure opening Akito's box that she inherited from her father is what frees the Juunishi, or at least it's a really big clue. :) *keeps reading*

Is that what did it for Kureno, though? It's been a while since I've read the Kureno flashback chapters: was Kureno freed from the curse when Akira died / gave Akito the box?

I haven't read the Kureno flashback in a while either, but the impression I got from reading the manga was that the timeline was like so: Akira dies, Akito goes completely crazy (see Yuki's flashback in which Akito starts painting the walls black -- she wasn't THAT gone before). Sometime later, Kureno's freed from the curse. I think we can definitely say Akira was dead as a doornail by the time Kureno was freed.

Kureno's freedom isn't necessarily related to the box, then--hmmm, unless that was when Akito first opened the box and saw there was nothing in it? Or maybe as Shigure says, Kureno's curse just dissolved at random--but why start with Kureno? Is it really meant to be that random? Almost all of our information on the curse comes from Shigure, and I have no idea how much we're meant to trust him. Add another question up there: "Will the eventual (happy?) ending of the curse and the series happen because of Shigure's plans or in spite of them? Which is preferable?" (I adore Shigure; I'd love to be able to trust him again, but I don't think I ever will.)
