i'm confused

With ALL these musicians out there, why can't we have a music climate like the 90's? With shit that was actually GOOD, even though some was in the minority. There was NIN, Hole, Manson, Tool, Pearl Jam, Live, Smashing Pumpkins, Pantera, Nirvana, Bush, APC... need I even go furthur? And I'm sure I'm missing something ( Read more... )

They're okay, but I've heard better. There's just a shit load of local bands that should be doing better then just local stuff... and vice versa.
But really, would Ashlee had ever made it without her sister? I doubt it...though it's possible.

okay, so maybe jessica did help her become famous, but still, she's a good musician, and just because she fucked up a little on snl or whatever doesn't give the world the right to hate her. EVERYONE fucks up at some point in their existance.

oh I don't hate her.. I actually think she's cooler then her sister.. and I agree, everyone DOES fuck up, but I just think it'd be cool if record labels stopped inbreeding and just backing one musician every 6 months. I'd like a little bit of choice, and it'd be nice to get some different music vids on mtv every once in a while.

And music is going to get worse.

i hope not.
with a new nin album, and tool album, we might actually have a year or so period where things aren't so bad.

Hopefully.
But that'll just be like, a year. We won't have a decade to look back on and really say 'that was music'.
But whatever.
And it's not even like we had a bunch of really good rappers that we will be talking about 20-30 years from now. Besides like, Eminem, Jay-Z, Dre, 2pac, and Biggie, and the last two just because they got killed.

Jay-Z.. I really don't like him. I don't think his raps are very good. The others.. yeah they're alright. But I don't want to have to say that was the good ol' music I grew up to.

maybe.....its not that music was better then. maybe music has just slowly been declining so that every generation sees what they had as 'the shit'.

huh.
interesting way to look at it.
but the 90's can hardly be considered our generation.

but really, whens the last time you came across a band as good as nin or tool? or like ratm? actually saying something worth hearing?

er...i mean, it's great that britney likes to get her groove on, and wonderful that pink is misunderstood, and that snoop likes to get blown.. i guess we'll never get another hurt then, or hell, even fiona apple.
*sigh*

You forgot to mention Alice In Chains, but I would remember a band with my name on it. Oh well. I do remember an interview with our own Mr. Reznor when The Fragile came out (about early 2000, I think), and he said he hadn't listened to much since he went into hiding, and then when he came out of it and finished the album he watched MTV and listened to the radio a few times. I think the quote was something like, "Good Christ! What happened?"

I don't even listen to the radio anymore, there's not much new that I unequivocally like. Except the White Stripes.

Yeah.. Alice In Chains... I knew I'd forget something.

That's a great quote. My sentiments are expressed well through it.

I don't listen to the radio period. The White Stripes are pretty good.. and there's some other okay things, but eh.. it's so rare to actually come across something that's very good.
