Wow! Congratulations! (Please pass them on to himself!) The regalia is MUCH better there than the Ph.D. stuff was in Cork, so be thankful for that!
You know, if I do get this next Ph.D., I may have to go through the conferral up at UBC, just on the off-chance that the regalia is nicer and I can buy it, and the hat is better...Because it's all about the hat, innit?
You can see the PhD regalia on this guy's blog, if you scroll down a bit: http://thefouldsfamily.com/2008/06/dr-ian-g-foulds.html It's not too bad, but I find the red gown a bit lurid. Would have preferred a nice black. Then it could double as Hogwarts robes. :)
Trust me, you so did not want to go to your MA graduation. I went to my PhD one for my parents, so no regrets, but it wasn't awesome. They have boring regalia, and no one makes an effort with the speeches. You'll be much happier having your SFU memories untainted. :)
Josh does look quite dapper in the suit; it fits beautifully. The white tie is nice - very formal.
