Today Melbourne felt less like Melbourne, and more like Delhi. Or Bangkok. The temperature hit 37 degrees, and the air was thick with smoke. Watching from the air-conditioned comfort of the bookshop, I half expected to see a rickshaw or a cow or something pass by the front windows. Today the air in Melbourne is much clearer - the bushfires are still raging, but the wind has shifted direction and taken the smoke with it. It's scary stuff indeed.

See all that smoke streaming down to Tasmania? Well, it got there, and it's been blanketing us ever since.
