I couldn've sworn that I posted this before, but I can't seem to find it. And it's great advice ... about offering sympathy or solutions(advice), instead of just launching into fix-it mode.
Absolutely! I am that way, by default, and have had to learn to suss out when people might want the other option, particularly family members.
A friend who normally wants advice needed sympathy, instead, the other day (major life shock), so this cartoon came to mind. After the venting & support phase, she was back to normal, and we strategized escape plans for her predicament.
