Virus protection software suggestions?

I've been having mucho problems all day long with my computer. Freezes, constant shutdowns with no warning. At one point during a reboot, there was a huge red square on the screen - no, I'm not kidding

what did the real spybot find? i one had to talk my dad through installing and running it over the phone. took about two hours and found a few hundred problems...

I use ZoneAlarm, and I know people have mixed feelings about it, but I like it on the whole because it gives me a lot of control over my settings. But if you just want to use the default settings, that's cool too, and less time consuming. I've had it for a few years now. Got the whole Internet Security Suite when I started having mucho problems with my computer.

Spybot (the real version) is great too, and can be very helpful if it's updated and run often. Sometimes it catches spyware that other programs don't catch.

I've heard good things about McAfee but don't know specifics. Good luck! Computer problems are sooooo frustrating!!

I use ClamAV for Windows for my girlfriend's computer.

Beyond that, I'd suggest using Firefox and installing the NoScript plugin.
