When people like that say "I'll be praying for you," I want to retort, "I hope you'll be praying FOR me and not AGAINST me."

Ugh. Such odious, narrowminded, misguided, condescending, ignorant arrogance from that woman. Cocksure, evangelistic, self-righteous devotees of any creed always are-whether it be Christianity, atheism, Judaism, Republicanism, or any other. I think you handled it brilliantly. Probably better than I would've.

This what you write is similar to my reaction to Jewish (or any other religious) dietary strictures: If "god" has a problem with something I eat, s/he can jolly well let me know about it in no uncertain terms, without the aid of a scoldy intermediary ( ... )
