Heh, I assume this post is for the benefit of out-of-towners who don't know how much concrete there is b/w us (since I only live 2 blocks away from you!) and the fires? I know all too many people down in SD tho (in Rancho Bernardo in fact) that have had to evacuate tho; not a good scene down there at all... :(
Yes, this was for the out-of-towners. Trouble is, there are still lots of trees and wooden houses that could catch between here and Malibu. However, that is very unlikely with the wind pattern.
San Diego is in really bad shape. I am very worried about the people I know down there.
Hey there, I'm glad to hear that you are safe. Fires in the southwest are by no means part of a natural or healthy fire ecosystem at this point. The landscape has been altered so much by humans and the controlling climate forces are so far beyond the natural regime that when fires break out, they are devastating.
After moving back east it did not take very long to appreciate the lack of fire season. I remember breathing that in Flagstaff and having my car covered in ash. Yuck!
