Women's clothing sizes: a primer

Kevin has started shopping for me, so I've decided to write up a primer to forestall any further questions about clothing sizes. Feel free to pass this along to the men in your life.

Seriously, women's sizing is wack. I've been meaning to post a long rant. Losing 50+ lbs has completely confused me as to what sizes and brand combinations fit me. Let's not forget that in some stores, like oh, OLD NAVY, even if the same kind of pants is labeled the same numerical size, they are probably are not cut to the same size, thus resulting in two pairs of theoretically identical pants that in addition to actually fitting correctly, might also fall off one's ass or be far too tight.

*A PhD in mathematics will not help you figure out a bra size.
No kidding. If you or the lady you are shopping for is DD+ not even a PhD in bra sizing will help you. The industry formula does not work.

Good luck Kevin! I wouldn't wish women's clothing shopping on my worst enemy but its sweet he wants to try. I recommend sticking with buying shirts or some lovely pajamas, I think you have the best chance for flexibility of fit. Stay away from jeans and bras, I think that on average women try on like ten pairs of jeans to find one pair that fits, bad odds there. Suddenly shopping for clothes is starting to sound like gambling...well you know what they say, "the House always wins".
