Well, last night was the Camberwell Girls Grammar School Year 11 "Soirée" (ie formal). There are quite a few photos, and they're all big, so I'm going to post this in stages.
Part 1:
At 5:30, we all met at Steph's house, for photos, finger food and champagne. It was Elise's birthday, so Alice read out a poem which we'd written in English earliar in the day. This poem featured such lines as: "Tabletop dancing is a brilliant career / why don't you give it a shot this year" and "So everybody raise your glasses / strike a pose and shake your arses" (both of which were contributed by me).
It was great to see everyone dressed up, and to meet people's dates, and our parents could all mingle and take photos.
L-R: Alex, Ella, Liz, me.
Alex is Ella's boyfriend, and they were all over each other all night! They won the award for "cutest couple".
Lizzie (
buffy_kitten), Nick (Lizzie's partner), Fazz (my partner) and I took a taxi to the venue: Lincoln of Toorak. We thought we were going to be late, but the taxi got us there early (although we had to cross the road, and seeing as though Lizzie and I were both wearing incredibly uncomfortable shoes, we walked quite slowly, so we probably arrived right on time).
On arrival, we were greeted by Zoe (who had clearly been drinking just a little too much beforehand). Mrs Gibbons came over and gave me and Lizzie each hugs, which was kind of her.
After a little bit, everyone started to arrive, including Mrs Mason! (Who is our favourite teacher). She's taken the year off, because she had a baby, and we really doubted that she'd return because she was kind of replaced before she was even considering leaving. So, Lizzie and I had a very enthusiastic discussion with her about her son, Archer, and how much we've been missing her at school, and she said she was coming back next year !!!
Almost everyone came over and hugged each other. We all complimented each other on how pretty we looked and everything. Half the time it was so fake.
L-R: Me, Fazz, Eleanor (
pieces_of_ele), Nick(?) - Ele's date. I'm not sure of his name.
After about half an hour or so of greeting time, maybe it was an hour, I don't know, we were moved from the foyer into the actual room/hall/thing. We all had set seats at tables, and my table was excellent.
I was seated with Lizzie (and Nick), Alice (and Lucy, who she brought as her date, even though Mrs Feehan - our stupid bitchy principal who doesn't like Mrs Mason - emphasised that she did not want any ex-students to come. Several did. Ha.), Amy, Steph and Elise (and Andrew, her partner). Oh, and of course Fazz.
Before entrée, we had a bit of "mingling" time, where music was played, and Mrs Gibbons did a bit of an intro speech thing. Basically, more of an opportunity for photos.
Lizzie (
buffy_kitten) and Jessie.
Food was served, and more photos were taken. For entrée, we had pumpkin soup, which had this strange lump of pasta in it. Lizzie (
buffy_kitten) proceeded to eat her soup with a normal spoon. Well, actually, she didn't eat all that much of it. Then, when the people re-set the tables, they took her soup spoon away too, meaning she was left with no spoon for the rest of the night.
Our main meal was either chicken or veal, I think. I was fussy and demanded something vegetarian. They gave me a pastry thing with cous cous in it, and it was delicious!
Dessert was a disgusting chocolate thing. I ate the ice-cream which came with it.
L-R: Me, Vicki, Lizzie
I took photos with so many different people. When I was speaking to Vicki in class earliar that day (perhaps earliar in the week), she told me her dress was navy blue, so I was expecting something horrible and boring, but it actually was quite nice. It's covered in sequins and beads, and although I wouldn't be caught dead in it, it really suited her.
Back: Steph, Alice. Front: Amy, Elise.
Steph and Amy's dresses were the exact same colour, and they came from the same shop too (completely different designs, though).
The DJ had the worst taste in music that you could ever imagine, so I tried to avoid dancing. (But Fazz seemed quite keen on the idea ... more about that later).
Partway through the night, a few of the girls on the committee decided to give some awards, such as "person most likely to have paid their date to come" (Zoe), "cutest couple" (Ella and Alex) and "best fake tan" (Sophie Mettrick).
L-R: Me, Lizzie, Rachana
Rachi won the award for "brightest dress". Her dress wasn't what I expected it to look like at all, and she looked so elegant. (The tiara was a part of her prize, by the way. It's very snazzy - it lights up and flashes).
Adèle (
del_a_deer) had to join in a picture with Rachi because Del, Rachi and I have a bit of a "French Alliance" ... well, we went to France together, and shared a hotel room in Paris. When we were meant to split off into groups of four or more, the three of us went off together.
Me and Vivian. Viv got the prize for "belle of the ball". She came with a blind date, who was over 6ft tall. I'm actually bending down in this photo, you see, because Viv is rather tiny.
Me and SuMei/Priscilla. When she first came to our school, she was Priscilla Chan, but then another girl came halfway through the year, whose name was also Priscilla Chan, so the original Priscilla was forced to change mack to SuMei. I still call her Priscilla.
I haven't really spoken to Lewina that much recently. We were really good friends in years 7 and 8, but in year 9 we weren't in the same friendship "group". I still get along with her quite well.
Andrea used to work at Safeway with me (before I quit). She's going out with this guy called Matt, and Lizzie and Alice can't believe it. This is apparantly big news.
Me and Alice.
Alice looked so glamourous. Normally, her hair is in a ponytail. I have only ever seen her hair out in one other instance! She got it done especially, and it cost $60 ... and she hated it! I thought it looked gorgeous, although you can't really see it in this picture.
One last photo, to finish off this lot. This is me and Del (
del_a_deer). And Bailey's hand. Bailey's Liz's friend ahnd he accompanied her to the formal. He likes to act like a dickhead.
More photos to come later. I've had to open a new photobucket account, and because these photos are so large, they take forever to upload.
