Happily Ever After
Yoona never expected having to share something special with anybody else, never did she anticipate to want someone to be with for the rest of her life. She used to think that if she wanted a long lasting career she’d have to sweep aside the notion of marrying someone and having her own family someday.
When Yoona was younger she would often daydream of herself in a beautiful wedding dress. As you can see she was the type of girl who desired a happily ever after with her Prince Charming.
As an idol she was used to men confessing to her through variety shows. But never did any of those men dared to call her or even talk to her in person. She had this fear of growing old by herself because SM specifically made it clear from day one that dating was not allowed. That rule itself gives her goose bumps.
That’s why you can imagine the delight shock Yoona had when Donghae of all people approached her during rehearsal break and asked her out on a date. Yes, Yoona has had this ‘tiny’ crush with Donghae since their trainee days. But she knew she’d have to forget these kinds of feelings for him if she wanted to debut earlier. And so she kind of did.
On the other hand, Donghae wasn’t always this bold to just approach a girl and ask her out. But Yoona makes him like that. Hell, Yoona makes him want to do different things that he usually doesn’t do. She isn’t just a ‘girl’ to Donghae to begin with.
He has always tried to be a good oppa to her. Cheering her up when she was down or helping her out when she was troubled. He convinces himself that his feelings for her were completely brotherly or platonic. But every night before he sleeps the thoughts of hugging her tightly, touching her and kissing her is far from being brotherly the last time he checked.
He still remembers clearly the raging monster in the pit of his stomach during SNSD’s Genie promotions. When her never-ending legs were exposed in tiny short-shorts for every male species to see. He so wanted to drag her from the stage away from the malicious eyes of men. He wanted to tell her that those sky-high legs were for his eyes only, but of course he didn’t being the gentleman that he is.
Asking Yoona out was easier than he thought it would be. He reminisced at how radiant Yoona’s smile was when she nodded yes and thought that it was the most beautiful thing he ever saw in his life. For the past four years Leeteuk has been incessantly hinting to Donghae that she likes him too, but that was how naïve he is when it comes to girls.
Planning the best date was the hardest part. Yoona deserves the best of everything and going to the movies like normal people do wasn’t the best idea. Crap, the ‘No dating ‘ rule just ruined everything. But just as he was going to give up the best idea he had ever thought of came to his mind.
For their very first date Donghae had set up the dorm’s kitchen into what looks like a fancy and romantic candle-lit dinner--- with the help of his hyungs of course. He was nervous as hell but when Yoona soon arrived with her reassuring smile and wearing a simple white dress it was like Donghae fell in love with her all over again.
He made sure that the other members were obediently watching a movie in the tenth floor dorm and that Heechul hyung wasn’t snooping around with a camera on hand or Hyukjae and Shindong setting a hidden camera somewhere in the room. Donghae wanted everything to be perfect just as how perfect Yoona looked that night.
They ate, they talked, they laughed, they held hands and finally… finally! They kissed.
They were inseparable after that fateful night. They efficiently spent their free time together. The SNSD girls were even getting sick of the sight of them cuddling on the couch, but of course they couldn’t be happier for the two of them.
They texted each other every night for the past couple of years and Yoona still looks forward to Donghae’s every replies. The fear she once had of being alone for the rest of her life was gone completely by the mere presence of Donghae.
But still there was this nagging feeling inside of her. That if SM finds out of their relationship there’ll be hell to pay. The worst-case scenario is the reaction of both their fans if they ever find out. Everything they’ve worked for will crash and burn right before their eyes. And both Super Junior and SNSD will be suffering with them. Yoona couldn’t afford the thought of seeing her friends hurt--- seeing him hurt.
She sometimes asks herself if keeping this precious thing with Donghae is the right thing to do. Under the watchful eyes of the public a new fear resurfaces. Will they be able to make it together? Will she get her happily ever after in the end?
Yoona lay awake on her bed with these kinds of thoughts swimming on the edge of her mind all night. She tossed and turned on her bed and completely forgot about the other person sleeping beside her.
Donghae unconsciously wrapped his arms around her. He breathed in Yoona’s scent and smiled in his sleep. Yoona laid her head on his chest feeling his heartbeat thrum to her like a lullaby, and slowly letting sleep consume her.
Right now her happily ever after wasn’t that much of importance. But feeling his protective arms around her as if telling her ‘I love you. I wouldn’t leave you’. That was enough. For now.
