Shane McAnally (aka Shane Mack)

In Shelter-adjacent news, I've been reading articles and interviews relating to Steve Grand, a relatively unknown singer/songwriter from Chicago, who posted a music video for his original song "All-American Boy" to youtube a couple days ago, and which as already received over 871,500 hits -- if you haven't watched the vid, I highly recommend it!

The reason I'm making this post (aka, the relevance to our interests) is because of this article:

Steve Grand's 'All-American Boy' And Country Music's Views On The LGBT Community

From which I learned this:

8 of 20: Shane McAnally: The Gay Country Songwriter

Shane McAnally, who co-wrote most of the songs on Kacey Musgrave's debut album, is the rare Nashville creature: an out country songwriter.

While his name might not sound familiar, you've definitely heard one of his songs if you listen to country music. Writing hundreds of songs a year, McAnally has written or co-written hits for The Band Perry, Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson and for the TV series "Nashville" (he also recorded songs for the gay film, "Shelter," under the name Shane Mack).

When interviewed by the New York Times in May 2013, McAnally said that his success came when he came out: “My career really took off when I came out. When I stopped hiding who I am, I started writing hits.”

I seriously had no idea! Some (most?) of you probably already know this, but if you, like me, didn't, then, here, I guess. *g*
