Two Questions, version 2.0

1) Is it possible to get diabetes or any other unpleasant disease from too much overly-sweet Christmas music?

2) Why is the Vienna cast recording of Cabaret split between English and German? Do they expect the audience to be perfectly bilingual?

1) Interestingly enough, I love Christmas music even though I'm not in any way sentimental.

2) Probably. From what I've read, most people in Germany & Austria are fluent in their native tongue and English (lucky!).

I believe the Canadian production of Les Mis was performed in French and English on different nights (although I might be incorrect).

1) Too much is too much. If you can't walk into a store without hearing it, you are almost certainly ODing. I'm just wondering about the side-effects.

2) That could be. The MC speaks excellent English entirely free of an accent, and the others are about as good.

Canada has too many language issues to count, so I could believe that.

1) Side effects? For me, it's generally getting in a good mood (how unnatural!). ;)

2) Lucky bastards.
I mean, seriously. I would kill to live in European country where you take 2 or 3 languages (well, I do now, but it's not the same). The U.S. doesn't have to depend on anyone since we're so huge, but little Germany has to talk with its neighbors.

Yeah, it's already been said above, but most people in Austria and Germany are fluent or at least passable in English.
