TV2age

Not only have I owned TV2 for exactly three years today, it also passed its MOT test this morning. I was expecting it to fail, as the ABS light has been coming on at random since last summer and I feared that it would come on during the test. Thankfully, yesterday's efforts to remove the accumulated muck from the drive-shafts' reluctor rings (which ( Read more... )

Sounds good to me. How much do tyres for TV2 cost?

I'm used to horribly-expensive ones as on Dogmobile Two (minimum of £150 a corner for suitable speed/load rated Goodyears or Avons) or being unable to buy anything but 'budget' no-name brands (£35/corner, for 'LingLong' or 'Fenway' brand) for Dogmobile One.

I can get branded tyres for around £65-£70 each from the online tyre suppliers :)

That's not too bad, just so long as it's a brand we've heard of.

While I'm happy to eat Chinese and Indian food, I'd rather not drive on their tyres.

Unlike many older big cars, there's no chance of TV2 getting Dongfeng Ditchfinders or Sri Ganesha Slidemasters in my ownership - I always fit quality tyres to my cars, regardless of expense.

Dirty ABS pole wheels can cause it to miscount the teeth and put up a fault code. It can also mean that the air gap for the sensors is not correct and needs resetting by removing, cleaning and refitting the sensors. We get it a lot on the buses :)

I want to give the whole front hub area on both sides a really good clean now that the car has a full 'ticket' and expect to remove the sensors for cleaning and inspection at the same time.

I'm still looking for a FCR which will work on TV2, as it was made when OBD-II was in its infancy.

It was made to special order for its original owner in early 1997, so it's just turned 15 :)
