It lay in a far-off galaxy.  The planet they found was christened New Earth, after the first Earth, which the people had to leave because it was destroyed beyond salvation, so that it was no longer habitable.   The atmosphere was already the same, the air the same, the soil the same, the water the same.   They brought their plant life, and their animal life, so that it resembled the world they had left behind in every way.  And then they brought themselves.  And, therefore, the people that made it their residence were, for better or for worse, also the same.
