For a girl I think Hope would be a name that Teyla would like. It would have meaning and provide connections with John's home culture as well as likely hers. Somehow I see the Athosians as having meanings and passing on family connections in their naming practices. It would be a way of orally perseving their history while on the run from the Wraith.
For boys I voted for Tagan. I can see a family or friend's name used though not quite so exotic sounding as many you have listed. While I can see John going with an Athosian name, I don't see him picking a more obscure Earth name without a really good reason. It just doesn't fit with how he names everything (and everyone else).
I can see Dex as a possibility. He lost one close friend by that name and has gained another.
Wow, Hope really is a beautiful name. I really like it. Even though the writers have the Athosians speaking English. I just can't see that happening in real life (not that any of this really is..lol)I guess I chose exotic names because in too many fanfics they have the baby/ies with very common English names. I think the names would be a mix of both (Athosian and English) . I think they would have more than one child. One of them maybe named after a grandparent (Teyla's or John's) for some reason I have always seen (in my crazy mind) Teyla has a boy first (they name him after John's dad..I just wish to GOD we knew his name) and then a beautiful girl with green eyes, black hair and Teyla's colouring with an Athosian name.....
I thought about this after voting but what John and Teyla's mothers. You mentioned the father's names but what about naming the girls after their mothers? We know next nothing about those relationships but it might make for an interesting story.
THAT is a really good point. We were never told about Teyla's mother ...right? We were told next to nothing about John's parentage except that his father was a (General/Colonel?) in the Navy? I think John got his eyes from his mother and Teyla..I think she got her mother's hair colouring???
I really like the name Ingram. You know what I didn't think that the name Elizabeth would get a vote! I guess I was wrong:-). I like the name Hope too! (Thank you to the person who suggested it) I wonder what the word Hope is, in Ancient?? Might make a nice name? What do you think? You know this is really interesting a lot of people have great Ideas. I just wish we knew the names of the grandparents!!
Charin or Charan (two different spellings were given) from 'The Gift' and 'Critical Mass' was like a grandmother to Teyla. That would be a possible name too.
For a boy... I say he should be named after someone in Atlantis, someone close to them. Maybe Aiden, after Ford you know? But if I had to choose from something in the list I guess I'd pick Tagan. John would be too confusing for Teyla, lol.
LOL. I like the way you think. You may have come up with a great boys name: Adien. It fits all 3 categories! 1: It has meaning behind it. Ford was a dear friend of John's and Teyla's. He still is. Who knows by the time John and Teyla get together he may be back (yay!)2: It is an Earth name (Ford is from Earth LOL) AND 3: It is also exotic which I think the Athosians would appreciate. Girl: Hope is a good name, but Elizabeth has to be in there somewhere. Or else Teyla's mother's name. Or Amelia, for Earhart.
I am a firm believer in Naming Children *for* Someone, not just giving them a name you think sound cool.
