Opinion. When did it become so important? I don't want people to email their stories or text their comments. Why on earth should I respect someone's opinion? People are idiots. We go around forming opinions willy nilly. We glance over someone's shoulder on the train, read a few lines in their god awful free hack sheet and pop, an opinion just forms ( Read more... )

I don't respect people's right to hold opinions if those opinions are rubbish, ill thought out or lazy.

In fact, I simply don't respect them as people in any way.

When I say 'respect', I mean I if I had the ability to use some mind altering device to stop them thinking that, I wouldn't.

However I know you strive to be a bond villan in all things, so mind contol rays are kind of your bag I guess...

You do me a calumny! I have no desire to impose my opinions or way of life upon others, and all I ask from others is the same courtesy.

That doesn't mean I have to respect fuckwits, mind.

You'll never change your opinions without debating them with people with other opinions

That implies that reading a book or an article, or seeing a film or documentry or even whitensing something fist hand won't make me change my opinion. Which I don't agree with.

But this whole post came from the idea that opinions need to be respected. That because someone believes something then it some how becomes some sort of sacred cow. I like debate, I like discussing opinions, and I really like pointing out to people just how wrong their opinons are. I even like it when people show my why my opinions are wrong. Because I like to be right and have no issue with changing my mind to help me be more right.

So yeah, debating opinions. Officially important.

I wondered if someone was going to say fact and put it in quotation marks.

Fact:
A thing that is indisputably the case.

Opinion:
A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

Just so we're clear how I'm defining things.
