TITLE: A Cruel Blow
RATING: PG
SYNOPSIS: Response to the Valentine's challenge #5: Make Holmes cry. Watson seems to be suffering a lot, so I thought a bit of revenge was in order. Inspired by a discussion I had with
spacefall about the hazardous contents of Holmes's pockets in SIGN, and the fact that he most likely fell on his keys in SCAN.
A Cruel Blow
The man struck out with a force of an oncoming steam train. Sherlock Holmes was forced to let go, as he fell to the floor in a crumpled heap tears springing embarrassingly to his eyes he caught a glimpse of his foe racing past him.
He tried to call out to Lestrade who was waiting near by, but he could not catch his breath. He clutched himself as the pain surged through him and his tears escaped and streamed down his face.
“Holmes!”
Watson raced towards his fallen friend, he was almost frantic. Dear God, he prayed, let it not be serious.
“Holmes!” He reached his friend and was on his knees instantly, his eyes searching for a wound and his hands clutching at his friends clothes. “Dear God, Holmes. Tell me where you are hurt.”
Holmes tried to answer, but he still could not find his voice. He tried to wave Watson away.
“I'm not going anywhere, not until I've examined you.” It was at this moment that Watson observed the position of Holmes's hands. He almost laughed with relief, “thank god. At least it's not serious.” Holmes disagreed and glared at him. “By that I mean life threatening.” He added hurriedly. He handed Holmes his handkerchief and allowed him a few moments to dry his eyes and then, hooking an arm over his shoulder he helped the poor man to his feet.
As he limped painfully towards a waiting cab, Watson foolishly remarked that it was a good job that Holmes was not married. Needless to say, Holmes was not the only one requiring a cooling bath that night.
