Silence fell for a moment. “Then go home.”

“I can’t. I’m not allowed too.” He doubted that a child could appreciate the delicacy of his situation- appreciate the fear of John’s reaction when he arrived.

“Oh, so you’re afraid of what your family will say then.” Sherlock shook his head in protest (Oh John, what will you say? Do?) “Well, that’s the beauty of family. You have to take them back anyways, even when they did something stupid.”

What I’ve done goes long beyond merely stupidity. John will hate me forever.

The girl snorted, scowling fiercly as she stared down the road. “Even if your brother is a thumb-sucking, blanket carrying idiot.”

It was far below his pride to admit that he had done something far worse then that. “I don’t have any family.” Was what he said instead.
