"Open Season" on Lestrade = possible whumpage, violence, H/C

Lestrade's made a lot of enemies in his time. Criminal enemies. After Sherlock's fall, the sensationalist media plays up Lestrade's disgrace and suspension from his position (along with plenty of photos), and some of those enemies realise that Lestrade is now a man alone, without the Yarders behind him, without so much as a baton for self-defence. In fact, it actually would solve some of the problems faced by the Met's senior leadership if Lestrade just... disappeared.
I'd like to see who (if anyone) realises how vulnerable Lestrade is and tries to watch out for him, before it's too late.
Whumpage, violence, and darkfic don't scare me. ;)

Oh, thank you so much! It means a lot to hear that this stuck with you. I'll be posting the revised/expanded edition in either 3 or 4 parts, I think. The next one will be up shortly.

I really love this. The way you handle the emotional aspects of this is impressive. It's restrained, and comes across as very genuine and in character, and it's more powerful for it.

I'm so delighted that you're enjoying this!
Thank you especially for your kind words about the emotional aspects of this story. I'm always afraid of overwriting, and so it's a goal of mine to try to do less with more, but I'm always aware that it's a tricky line to walk, and I know I don't always succeed. It means a lot to hear that this piece is feeling properly restrained and that the characterisations are working. You've put a big smile on my face!

John's medical bag fell to the ground as he threw himself forward to shield Lestrade, left hand catching and bracing himself against the body of the car, right hand drawing his pistol.
Before he could shout "Get the light!" the floodlight went dark. Its abrupt absence left him temporarily blinded.
"Ge'down," Lestrade panted below him, a painfully frail sound. "Go,John."
"Shut up, Greg," John replied.
John sensed rather than saw the muffled impact as one of the team members met the immovable object of Mycroft Holmes and failed to guide his long form into a protective crouch.
"Sir, this area's not secure," the unnamed would-be protector protested.
"Then secure it." John saw Mycroft's mobile shine to life for an instant and then disappear as Mycroft curled forward to block its glow.
"Explain," Mycroft demanded into the phone. "The Carlsons never return to the scene… I see. Yes, the two youngest may have gone rogue, acting contrary to orders. Are they alone?"
"Toman'Kenny," Lestrade slurred, almost too faint to hear. "Theylike

John had scrubbed his hands and arms to a bright, raw pink, but he fancied that Greg Lestrade's blood and vomit continued to cling to him, as obstinate as the man himself

"Indeed." Mycroft took a step toward the door and then paused. "Molly Hooper stopped by while you were washing, and I understand Mrs Hudson is on her way

Mycroft lurked in the corner like a disconcertingly benevolent gargoyle, hands folded before him and anchored on the handle of his umbrella. A+ description, nonny!
"Mmmm, my thoughts exactly." The elder Holmes inspected his own shoes, his umbrella, the turn of his cuffs. He did not meet John's eyes.
