Johns reaction to sherlocks torture anonymous May 27 2014, 20:18:20 UTC
You know that scene at the beginning of TEH when we see sherlock being tortured? He has obviously been there for some time. Somehow John gets to see the footage (possibly due to either Mycroft's or Moriarty's meddling/he notices some scars on sherlock's back and investigates). Angst ensues.

I would prefer johnlock but it's not required.

+1 if sherlock made a conscious effort to hide what happened to him

+10 if it's not the first time he has been tortured (john somehow finds also out about it). maybe have the mind palace created originally for the purpose of coping with the aftermath

+100 if somehow along the way they compare scars

    What kind of arrangement, indeed?
Sherlock is so NOT okay... And he's been dealing with it all alone. And John wasn't there...
    Please more!

Hnnnnngh!! I wish Irene was there to spank these two gits really hard! Sherlock is keeping everything to himself, silently going insane and falling apart completely. He's really broken and can't turn to anybody. But he'd got himself into something really bad with Seb instead.

And John, omg, John is so far in the closet I'm sure he can see Narnia!

Gnnnh. Am such a sucker for John-finds-out-about-Sherlock's-torture fics. (Because that's a whole genre now. <3 this fandom.)

*Hits F5 a lot* That's how it works, right?

It’s Sherlock who speaks first, with a forced smile: “Sorry. Off balance a bit. Back now. I probably should have warned you that I might feel… disoriented when I wake up. I thought I’d avoid it if I wore myself out enough to get practically comatose and sleep without dreaming, but see, I do miscalculate sometimes ( ... )

Sherlock looks elsewhere and doesn’t say anything, but there’s no need for it. John can imagine him, disoriented like he was tonight, unsure about what’s real and what’s not, desperate to shake this uncertainty off. That was what he’d felt himself when he’d had his PTSD moments. And yet he’d failed to notice anything. There’s some irony to it that Sherlock’s worst nightmare is you. His bloody best friend.

“Sherlock… When you’ve returned…” John chokes on his words. “Oh Christ, I saw the dates on the DVD cases. It’s just a few days before that.” There must have been fresh wounds under Sherlock’s perfect tuxedo. And you hit him. Not just once, not twice, but three times. Surely it had done no good to Sherlock’s recent injuries. “Why couldn’t you tell me then… Why show-off instead…”

Sherlock cuts him short: “What exactly should I have said? John, I’m not dead but I feel like I’d rather be, so leave the woman you were going to propose to and come home with me? What for? So that you would go with me out of pity, and maybe stay for some ( ... )

Don’t panic, John tells himself firmly. Absolutely no reason to panic. Sherlock does that. Goes to his mind palace when it gets too intense.Had Sherlock thought that John had left him and rushed home? Had it been too much for him to handle ( ... )

“It’s your fault too,” he chides, his voice suddenly hoarse. “If you explained… we could… we could have…”

Yes, they could. John’s suddenly able to imagine in detail what would have happened if Sherlock had asked him for help after he’d returned, if Sherlock had claimed him. Most likely, John would have ended up on Baker Street, especially if Sherlock had reinforced his plea with a burst of deductions about Mary. Liar. Liar. Liar. But Sherlock hadn’t. Was it because, from Sherlock’s twisted point of view, the fact that John had chosen Mary as a lifetime partner somehow had made her untouchable and him unneeded?

Which is even worse, at some point Sherlock had made a decision to nobly back off. Despite his own interests, as Mary would say ( ... )
