Sally had glared at him in a way that he knew meant she was trying not to cry underneath. She'd spun and headed off down into the bowels of the building as soon as they'd hobbled back to base, heading for her mate Wendy's office in the drug squad's lair. Anderson let him drop onto the sofa in his office, easing him down more gently than it looked. Lestrade shrugged out of his shirt, keeping pressure on the fresh layer of gauze covering his latest wound with one hand as he did so while Anderson rummaged in the cupboard for the big first-aid kit Sally insisted Lestrade keep stocked and to hand in there ( ... )

Still, better him than Sherlock. He was replaceable. Sherlock wasn't.

Augh, my heart! I love you, Lestrade! This is very effective, and it packs quite a punch. It's wrenching, what a familiar scene this seems to be for all involved.
