OK, since I suggested this subject, here are some of my favourites, selected for variety in length and content (check the fics themselves for warnings). I also have an in-progress rec list at the top of my journal, which has some BDSM in it and will eventually have a lot more, if anyone wants to follow.

Cold Song by Eldritchhorrors - my personal vote for best fic ever.

Unspoken Lies series by kijakazibibi - part 4 has a great caning scene.

Kingdom Animalia series by etothepii - really psychologically twisty Sherlock/Moriarty.

These Days You Don’t Know How to March by cranberryloops - a beautiful portrait of two people completing each other.

The Voice of the Morning Star by shinychimera and yeomanrand - this is a WIP and hasn't been updated in a while, but I hope it comes back as it breathes new life into the old 'John uses the crop on Sherlock and they're both a bit surprised' trope.

High Stakes by fengirl88 - handcuffs and a thoroughly dominated Sherlock (Lestrade/Sherlock)

Like You Hate Me by quamquam20 - I HAVE SWORN ONLY ( ... )

I think I've only read...three of these.

So OMG THANK YOU FOR ALL THESE BEAUTIFUL RECS.

And thank you for suggesting the theme, too. <3333

You're very welcome. If you're really into BDSM fic but haven't cased the fandom for it quite as obsessively as I apparently have then do keep an eye on my rec list, which currently gets updated with a couple of fics a week. I'm specifically trying to dig out some stuff that not everyone will have heard of.

And a rather lovely new one, That Tired Old Metaphor, Alchemy by anactoria has just gone up.

I have recced these elsewhere before, but in case anyone hasn't seen them yet:

1. A fantastic character study of Sherlock, detailing his first stay at a rehab clinic. (Although this has mention of past slash pairings, they are not at all the focus of the fic.)

In Confidence by emmadelosnardos. ca. 40,000 words, rated Mature.

2. A hard-hitting 2-part AU series exploring the friendshp of Celibate-Gay!Sherlock & Straight!John. Warning for homophobia.

You Can Tell Me Anything by coletta. ca. 38,000 words, rated Teen/Mature.

Seconding Emma's work. Very nice to see a realistic approach to therapy in a fanfic!

I'm not really a fan of self-promotion, but I am a big believer in putting gen fic where people can find it if they want it! If you're looking for character-oriented gen fic, check out the Sherlock stories on my master list: http://ivywatcher.livejournal.com/3067.html#cutid1

Mystrade recs? Either as main pairing or side, I just need some more Mystrade :)

earlgreytea68's Scotch Verse. A wonderfully long, slow-moving Mystrade that takes place after Reichenbach. This was my first Sherlock fic and still one of my favorites.

Off-topic fics I have enjoyed this week:

The Secret Identity of John Watson by scifigrl47. What John's life looks like to one of his girlfriends. The OCs are fantastic. And it has creeper!Sherlock. John/OFC, John/Sherlock (pre-slash/epic bromance, depending). ca. 27,000 words, rated G.

A Study in Sexuality by jupiter_ash. Not a new fic, but newly posted to AO3 so some may not have read it yet. A really thoughtful look at John re-examining his sexuality in light of his feelings for Sherlock. John/Sherlock, ca. 10,000 words, rated Mature.

Where the Sun Never Shines by teahigh. Post-Reichenbach. Sherlock returns, but John is more broken than ever. Sherlock tries to help. Hurt/comfort, John/Sherlock, ca 11,500 words, rated Mature.

Is there anyone left who's not yet reading bendingsignpost's Cooperative Principal? If so, go fix that. It's in the running for my favorite fic of all time. Certainly one of the angstiest. One chapter to go, not sure all of us readers will survive the feels.

*glares* I am surviving by valiantly keeping myself from reading until it is complete. YOU'RE NOT MAKING IT EASIER. e_e

(OMG CAN'T WAIT FOR THE LAST PART TO BE POSTED. :DDDDD)

You are smart for staying strong! You really really don't want to read it until it's complete (unless, of course, you want to join the rest of us who are flailing and incoherent after the end of chapter 7! o_O O_o)

*ALL THE WORRIED FACES*

OMG so brilliantly written. And such an EVIL CLIFFHANGER! /o\
