Prompt #38 - They Call me Fool - 76 word Story

Eternal Flame
They call me fool. I don't disagree.
I stayed, though I didn't believe his promises even as he uttered them. I stood by him, when I knew the girl did not lie. I allowed him to claim rights over us.
To take liberties.
I'm a fool all right.
My heart cracks as the fumes make my eyes water; I haven't cried in so long. I'll never cry again. Nor will my daughter.
He will burn forever.
Who Needs Enemies?
"That bitch! My own best mate! I can't believe she'd fuck around on me like that."
I'm standing at the bar with my mates and I've been drinking for a while now.
"Can you believe it?"
Silence.
"You didn't know did you?"
"No!" they chorus, indignantly.
"But she did like to put it about," says a smaller voice.
I study their faces. They called me fool when I married her.
Now I think I know why.
