When I got home from work today there was a message waiting for me to call my sister. I did, and learned that my dad had fallen from a roof he was working on and broken his neck. Apparently the scaffolding collapsed; my dad and the other man working on the roof fell. Dad has a broken vertebrae in his neck, a broken wrist, broken ribs and

Tons of vibes out in both directions!! But surely it must be a good sign that he was able to get himself up and mobile!!! I am guessing that he did not have a cellphone? Much as I am not a fan of those contraptions, this is a case in point in favour of having them around for emergency situations!!

Wishing him a speedy recovery with a minimum of pain (though I suspect feeling pain is preferable to the alternative). How tragic for his co-corker :-(

My dad and stepmother live out at the lake. They do have a cell phone, but only use it when one of them is going to town in case they forget something that needs to be picked up. Dad didn't have it with him, and even if he did I doubt if he would have had a signal. The wonders of living in the middle of nowhere.

He's in ICU at Health Sciences in Winnipeg now and my sister is there with him. Prognosis is good.

It's really tough being so far away and waiting for second hand news.
