I colored my hair today, something I've been doing every couple of months for the past 11 years. I wanted to do away with my growing roots before starting my new job tomorrow. Only -- and this is a big-time first -- the color is really screwed up. Instead of looking like a natural redhead, which is what I was going for, my roots are a weird pinkish

That sucks, I've never had it happen either. You might have to bite the bullet and go to a salon to get it fixed, or at least call one that specializes in color to see if they have any recommendations.

I followed your excellent advice, calling four local salons and telling them my sob story before I found someone who had time to see me today -- a middle-aged woman who had an immediate opening.

When I got there, she told me I'd be better saving my money, gave me tips for evening out the color with the leftovers from my home kit, and said most of what I was seeing in the mirror amounted to nerves about my new job.

Do I'm thinking I must have overreacted. That, and maybe I need better lighting in the bathroom. And also, one should never underestimate the soothing power of motherly ladies.
