Title: So much for merry Christmas

Summary: it's never easy when you're replaced.
She loved this time of the year, hey, she practically planned her whole year around Christmas! She was especially excited for the yearly Christmas dinner with her neighbours, just cos it meant that she was the only girl, besides his sisters, that got to spend Christmas with him.
Yamada Ryosuke was his name, and Takeuchi Chie was hers. Being an only child and wanting a big brother to look up to, Chie affixed herself to him the moment he asked to make sand castles with him. Growing up, she was the envy of most of the girls who knew him. Their distaste of her was well explained by the fact that she was the only girl he would actually pay attention to, this being a constant obstacle for the girls who sought his attention. (A/N: well obviously)
Years later, she was now 16 as he was 18. She was no longer the same needy little girl she was, thus no longer had his undivided attention. He had grown up into a dashing young man, his hormones were raging and he had already brought home a girlfriend or two. Though she never let it show, the very thought of those other girls being all over him made her feel angry, hurt, jealous. But what could she do? After all in his eyes, she was merely a younger sister.
Christmas day came and she was beyond excited. She got up early to bake a cake, strawberry shortcake, his favourite flavour. After hours of mixing, pouring, baking and icing she was finally done.
“OH CRAP! 5 ALREADY? I better go get ready!”
She hurried upstairs and got ready, shower and all, and was done by 5:45. At 6, she and her parents went over.
As she walked, she wondered what he was wearing, what he had cooked, what present he was gonna give her, and his face when he saw how beautiful she looked.
As they all sat down at the table, his mother remarked “it’s just gonna be the 7 of us this tonight, Ryosuke’s out with his girlfriend.”
That very moment, Chie felt her heart break, but she held it in, smiled, nodded and began to eat.
After dinner, while everyone else chatted, she sat by the window just waiting for him to come home. Just then her phone rang, it was him.
“Moshi moshi~” her tone indifferent, she had given up on acting like his being in a relationship was nothing to her.
“Ah~ Chie~! Did you see your present?”
She turned her head towards the giant teddy bear sitting by the tree, “yea I did.. thanks.”
-He doesn’t even care enough to give it to me personally.-
“Great! I’m glad that you lik-“
“mou~! Honestly-“
“RYOSUKE! LOOK! The illuminations are so beautiful~♥” she heard his girlfriend say over his end.
“Just like you~” - his reply to her, though soft, was still audible. She panicked as tears welled in her eyes.-
“Sorry Chie, you were saying?”
“Honestly..” -panic took over- “Honestly, I hate how you keep treating me like a kid! I’m not a kid anymore, so you gotta stop giving me things like teddy bears!” she snapped back.
“Oh…… gomen ne? I thought you still liked them..” a hint of sadness in his voice.
“My mum’s calling me so I gotta hang up now. Have fun on your date. Bye.”
“Chie, I-“
She cut him off.
-Gomen ne Ryo-chan, I didn’t mean to say all that, I really don’t hate the teddy bear the only thing I really hate is that you’re with her. Honestly, all I want for Christmas is you.-
