1. Take your base, crop and resize it to 100x100.

2. Duplicate your base three times. Set the first two duplication layers to soft light at 100% and sharpen the second soft light layer (filter> sharpen> sharpen). Set the final duplication layer to screen at 80%. Also, up the saturation on this layer. (Image> adjustments> hue/saturation. set the saturation to 50)
3. Add a new fill layer using #fffc00. (layer> new fill layer> solid color) set this to soft light
4. Add a selective color layer (layer> new adjustment layer> selective coloring)

5. another selective color layer

6. it still looks a little off from what I want it to look like so I decide to add another selective color layer just to play with the greens and reds.

7. still not quite where I want it to be so I add one more selective color layer (I know, I know!)

8. one more selective layer coloring, just to get rid of a little more yellow.

9. merge all and you're done!!
That's all that I did to it, and it was pretty easy. the key is to play around with the settings depending on what you want the icon to look like. Each picture is going to be different so these settings might not work with all pictures but just play around!
