It's only been 8 months since I've had a TV, but I can honestly say, I rarely ever miss the thing. We've been meeting up with friends who do have one to watch the conventions, and even that is mind-numbing because every speaker has to repeat the same lines over and over again, since that's apparently the only way to reach people through the idiot box!
You're right about us not having a community, but I feel as though this is typical of Western culture in general, and not just the US. At least that's the way it seemed over in Berlin and London. The only sense of community I've ever felt was in school. I can't even imagine how it would feel where I live. My neighborhood is not too keen on me even being here, as is made obvious to me by the glares of the hispanic men as I walk down the street.I could choose to be apart of my loft community, but I find myself unwilling to go the extra mile beyond a nod and a smile in the morning when I run into people in the hall.
