Every year in homage to Earth Day, I use The Nature Conservancy's website to calculate my carbon footprint.  I am down four carbon tons this year!  Feeling pretty awesome about that.

Here is my favorite new thing:  I bring my own tupperware to restaurants for leftovers :-)  I have always felt verrrry conflicted about taking home food, because I hate ( Read more... )

I'm down to 4.3 carbon tons, partially because I *refuse* to use "energy efficient" light bulbs. Those light bulbs have MERCURY in them!! If you break one, you are supposed to have your house cleaned for toxic chemical residue! How many people know that? Almost none! How many people do that? Hardly any!

I'd rather create green house gasses than contribute to poisoning people (and myself) with mercury. The next generations of children are going to be born with physical and mental defects and have all kinds of health issues due to mercury poisoning (just like Minamata, Japan, except that was factories doing the poisoning) from light bulbs and electronic equipment. I'm not contributing to that, no siree! So I'm happy with 4.3 tons.

I didn't realize that the average American creates 27! That's crazy! I'm below the world average per person (5.5) too, but that's because I haven't traveled this year.
