I've heard that, too. I won't be working it, though. Seen Tool; want no part of setting up their rig. Besides, working there feels like a giant step backward.
EEEehhhhh...I want no part of setting them up either....I'm sure that the whole thing is an ego driven nightmare..seems sort of strange, given the content.... But I love Tool... (That's right, I said it...) From the first show (It was Lollapaloza 91? or was it 90? Whatever..the first one. I said, "who is this?. "I kinda like this..."..(the band being Tool and the song being Sober) And that was an afternoon set that no one really cared about...Now, they have multi-media, and a lot of it...) I saw them on the same tour twice in different venues and different seating...One was second tier stage left, and the other was GENAD where I wound up 10ft off of DSR...From the deck I was able to see all of the video and laser coolness, and from the floor, I could somewhat see the band... and yet they were nearly the exact same show... Perspective is everything...
I first got into Tool when my cousin sent me a bootleg of Opiate. I stayed with them up through Aenima, but they lost me at Lateralus, though that was the tour I saw them on. Even then I'd developed a healthy distaste for bands who used too much staging to make their show impressive, instead of relying on the music to carry it...which Tool could surely have done, though I understand why they didn't. Maybe the problem was that I couldn't actually see *them*, only their staging.
For my money, though, Danny Carey is still one of the greatest drummers of all time.
