Jonathon is under no circumstances ever allowed to touch the books on the top shelf, or, so help him God, Father will beat him into the next week. This is exactly why he had waited until Father left for a business trip into Alicante to stand before the grand bookcase.
He pulls down the first of the books that he sees. It's heavy and smooth in his hands, and when he opens it, he immediately recognizes his father's handwriting. He's not exactly sure what it says, but he does pick out one word: Jonathon. And after it: Christopher.
Jonathon Christopher. That's my name, Jonathon thinks. He'd never known that he had a middle name.
