Tessa wished to slam the Codex down, rip the curtains back, and scream until her lungs burst, but that wasn't proper.
Will infuriated her. He'd dared to take her feelings-innocent feelings, if deep and unexpected ones-and twist them, turning them into a horrific distortion, a parody for his own amusement.
She had been foolish to think that something could have happened between them-he was Nephilim, and she was a Downworlder, and no matter how well they got along or didn’t, he still thought that she was beneath him.
It’s all right to love someone who doesn’t love you back, as long as they’re worth you loving them. As long as they deserve it. Sophie’s words came back to her, and she was beginning to think that she should take heed to them-maybe Will didn’t truly deserve her affections.
Maybe it was he who was beneath her.
