Why is David Cameron promising a social fightback? What has the government got to do with it? It's spent years making itself irrelevant in social issues, and by the policy of "big society" in governmental issues too. Now it wants "in"? I find this dubious.

When you find yourself avidly reading the latest words from the Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde to get the backstory on the latest government porkies, you know there's something funny going on.

I think Theresa May should authorise the mounted police to ride on unicorns. After all, she's authorised the immediate use of water cannon, and we haven't got any of those either.
