Snowflake Challenge, Day 15

Jan 15, 2013 18:22

Last day! Aren't you guys glad all this daily posting is over? Haha.

Day 15

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Oh my! I have so many. Here are just a few, off the top of my head.

  • The first time I ever read fanfic, because it was just the perfect intersection of writing, my favorite band(s), and my desire to make things. I always enjoyed writing, but fanfic really lit a fire under my ass.
  • My first Hanson concert, after ten years as a fan. I didn't think I really liked live music; I'd seen a few other bands I enjoyed (namely, The Academy Is... and Panic! At The Disco) and it was kind of a shit show. But seeing Hanson for the first time just did things to me. Plus, I got to meet some of the other authors I'd befriended and some other fans who were so. much. nicer. than I ever expected. We tend to have a bad rep, but these girls were just lovely to me.
  • Hearing the song that sealed the deal for me being a Hanson fan live in their hometown. Like... here's where it all started. This huge, classic venue, in the town that spawned this band who has changed my life. And they're playing the song that, to be a little melodramatic, saved my life.
  • Nearly everything else about that road trip.
  • All the wonderful friends I've made throughout the years, even though I've lost touch with a lot of them. They were all wonderful in their own ways, and to those of you still around and reading this, I love you all!

Well, that wasn't so bad. Could have been a lot longer and lot sappier, but I think I hit the key points. Here's to many more years of awesome friends, memories and Hanson road trips!
