Hey, gigglingwizard, I saw this and immediately thought of you.  Reading the whole article, though, it apparently applies to ANYONE and EVERYONE not just having "farm livestock", but also even PETS!

If you have animal friends and companions and livestock for organic food supplies, - any of that... please read this!

I went over to the USDA site and read up on the NAIS program. It would not apply to pets, only livestock. It's intended to track lineage in the event of a disease breakout, i.e. bird flu. Those two sites are a lot of hype, and while I'm not one to readily trust the government, I don't think there should be a lot of concern over this program. JMHO.
